Before autumn rains and cold weathers, some moments from last summer might be nice.

Lappish summer is the time of Sun. Sleeping on summer nights is just one of the things you can do. There are simply so many other appealing things to do, like swimming at midnight and following birds at the staithe. If you’re patient enough to stay awake till morning, you might experience some kind of magic. It is a myth that during the morning mist you might see fairytale creatures, such as goblins, elves and fairies. Silence in the middle of the mist for sure makes everyone wait for something to happen.

The biggest day of summer is Juhannus. It is the celebration of the midnight Sun and is celebrated around 20^th and 25^th of June. Lappish summer nights are always bright but at Juhannus Sun never go down. There are probably as many traditions to celebrate midnight Sun as there are people in Finland, but one of the most common ones is the bonfire. You can see many of them around the lake and riversides. Juhannus is a day to spend time with family and friends, just enjoying the beauty of midnight Sun and nature. Good food, relaxing and sauna are the keys to perfect Juhannus.

Nature is a great place to spend some time at summer. Not everyone goes abroad on their vacancy; many people prefer peaceful trips into nature. Finnish people love to spent time at their summer cottages, enjoying sauna, swimming and barbequing. Hiking is popular hobby in summer and suitable for whole family. Kids learn a great deal about nature, whereas adults enjoy the simplicity of life in forests. Trips can last two hours or one week, the only important thing is that one finds enjoyment and break to normal routines.

All in all the best things in Finnish and Lappish summers are the midnight Sun and great nature. There are plenty of outdoor activities for everyone. And what is the greatest thing? You never get bored on summer times.

Construction has proceeded very well and the installation of log frame has advanced according to plan, without problems. The timetable that the customer has set is quite busy and challenging but on the other hand we have accepted the challenge and the assembling foreman is very trustful that we will finish this project in time. Ikihirsi has submitted all the materials to the site.

Last time visiting the building site, I had with me Gary, a project manager of English building company. He was there to get more information and experience of a big building project of building a log house, since our project will be one the biggest log house buildings in a whole Europe.

He was especially keen to know, how the logistics of the project has worked out. This project is so big that it is not rational to bring all the materials to the site at the same time. The deliveries have been divided so that the materials have become to the site just when they are needed.

Our guest wanted to know, if they arrived in time? The assembling supervisor said that everything has become right in time. Of course, this didn’t just happen by itself but from the very beginning we made an exact project plan and everybody committed to abide by it. To make the timetable work wasn’t only the responsibility of Ikihirsi, but also of many third parties and of course of the customer.

There have been few surprises: A lightning hit the crane of the site last week. Therefore the crane is out of order and is waiting for the repairman to come. In the meantime, the assembling group has focused on other finishing works. It is not possible to continue the assembling of the log frame without the crane in the project this big. In the first part of the complex is in the same time going on the assembling of the windows and the midsole. To the main building the group is assembling the insulation of the base floor, on top of that there will come a technical floor.

Spring has arrived at Finland and brought Sun with it, who expels the blue shades of polar nights. Although nature begins to turn toward summer, is spring active time to Finnish people. Everyone is outside feeling the warmth of Sun. Ice fishing, skiing, downhill skiing and driving with snowmobile are popular hobbies on spring time. Who could resist snow banks sparkling in the Sun light?

Finnish people are known to be keen on skiing. Along the skiing routes there are several leans, where skiers can have a pause; make some coffee and fry sausages. Skiers who know the area often make trips to wilder nature, in search of the peaceful atmosphere. On spring time snow banks often become so hard, people can easily ski and walk on it.

Something that requires a little bit more patience is ice fishing. You may sit on ice an hour, maybe two or even a whole day. Although you wouldn’t get any fish, it is a great pleasure to enjoy sunny days. The most important thing in spring activities is to find some silence and time to enjoy the company of friends and family.

To people who want more excitement and speed there is downhill skiing and snowmobiling. There are many downhill skiing centers in Finland with excellent slalom slopes, such as Levi and Ylläs. In skiing centers can be found also great snowmobile routes with beautiful landscapes. Skiing centers are popular places on winter holidays. Many families rent a log cabin for a week and spent time outside and in nature.

All in all, Finnish people love winter and especially spring with sparkling snow, warmth of sun and all of the spring hobbies. Outdoor life is the hottest thing on spring time.

As we told you earlier, Ikihirsi supported the big international cross country ski event Tour De Barents together with Puukeskus and Artic House. It was held in Rovaniemi 9^th of April in nice, sunny spring weather. The event brought together a lot of people who came to cheer on their favourite skiers and share a nice atmosphere. The competitors offered to the public exciting battles through the whole competition.

In addition to the public also the competitors were very satisfied to the event and gave excellent feedback. Number of participants will certainly increase in the future. Also Ikihirsi and other sponsors received very positive publicity.

Ikihirsi-Team was successfully second in the 16^th Yukigassen which took place in  Kemijärvi 2.-3. of April 2011. Ikihirsi Team was very close to take a gold metal and final result the audience found out at last minutes. Fast and risqué flag robberies gave the best fun and excitement for the supporting audience. The winner was KP-55 and in total 20 teams from Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia took part to Yukigassen.

Yukigassen is a snowball battle originally coming from Japan. It is arranged every winter and in several countries like in Norway, Sweden, Holland and Canada.Yukigassen came to Kemijärvi in 1995, from its friendship city Sobetsu.

In the competition two 7 member teams face each other on a Yukigassen court. By throwing snowballs at each other, the competitors try to eliminate opposing team members by hitting them with a snowball. Players can also steal their opponents’ pennant to win the set. Each match consists of up to 3 sets lasting 3 minutes and the winner of 2 sets win the match. In total Yukigassen lasts two days including the play-offs on the first day and on the second semi-finals and the finals.

World’s best Skiers in The Barents Region - Tana – Inari – Rovaniemi 6.4.-10.4.2011

Tour de Barents is a big international cross country ski event, which is organized for the next time on April (4) 6 – 10, 2011. The event last spring received very positive feedback from the participating athletes and also from their service staff.

From the very beginning the idea has been to develop Tour de Barents into a spring-time tourism event and at the same time also a new meeting arena for the business. Sponsoring Tour de Barents is an ideal way to create and strengthen positive corporate image in the Barents region and to network with the companies and officials in the region.

Like last spring, competition venues will be Vadsø of Norway and Inari and Rovaniemi in Finland.

Company IKIHIRSI together with MAKI HOUSES (dealer in Moscow) took part in the VII International Exhibition ”Wooden House” (Moscow), which was held from March 23 to March 26, 2011 at the exhibition centre “Crocus Expo”.

On the exhibition were represented products of factory Ikihirsi and visitors were offered a long-awaited spring SPECIAL OFFERS on the most popular models of wooden houses. On the stand were representatives of factory Ikihirsi so the visitors could get competent information related to material quality, manufacturing technology and design of wooden houses. The exhibition was very successful – we collected a large number of questionnaires of visitors and also some contracts were signed. The stand of Maki Houses was awarded a diploma “Original Design of the Stand”. We are sure, that in the near future there will be more concrete results of this exhibition.
